Character Identification in Halbi Narratives

This is the scan of a term paper written in 1973 to describe the categories of characters identified in Halbi narratives. These include: primary, secondary, and tertiary characters, and deities, culturally predictable characters, and probably supernatural beings.

The separation of the characters into the various categories is based on two sets of grammatical features: those used at the initial identification of the character, and those used in maintaining the character's identity throughout the narrative. The general principle is that the main character is identified as infrequently as possible after he is introduced; but all other characters except the culturally predictable characters are specifically identified whenever they come on stage.
